What this is
The World Health Summit is one of the larger annual gatherings in global
health, held in Berlin and drawing ministers, researchers, clinicians and
implementers. The Stipend and Fellowship Programme funds a cohort of
participants who would otherwise be priced out of the room.
The 2026 summit runs 11 to 13 October in Berlin.
Why this one is worth acting on now
Almost every programme in this section has a fixed closing date. This one does
not: applications are reviewed on a rolling basis until places are filled.
That cuts both ways. There is no deadline to miss, but there is also no
guarantee the programme is still open next week — places go as they are
awarded. If it fits, apply early rather than well.
Who it is for
The programme is aimed at people from low- and middle-income countries, or
those with directly relevant lived experience, who work in:
- Global health
- Community health work
- A closely related field
Fluent English is required, and you must be eligible for a short-stay Schengen
visa. That second condition is worth checking before you invest time in the
application — a Schengen refusal is not something the organisers can override.
What is covered
More comprehensively than most:
- Round-trip flights to Berlin
- Four nights' accommodation with breakfast
- Full conference access and meals during the summit
- Up to €200 towards local transport and daily costs
- Up to €200 reimbursement for visa and passport costs
- An invitation to the official opening reception
The visa reimbursement is unusual and genuinely useful — Schengen application
fees are a real barrier, and most programmes leave them with the applicant.
Practical notes
Berlin in mid-October is cold and wet; budget for that. Schengen appointment
waits vary hugely by country and can run to several weeks, so start the visa
process as soon as you are accepted rather than after booking anything.
