Google EMEA Legal Summer Institute

What this is

The Legal Summer Institute is Google's programme for law students across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, run jointly with partner law firms. Participants spend a week working with a host firm, alongside sessions run by Google's own legal teams.

It runs across roughly sixteen cities — among them Vienna, Brussels, Cairo, Paris, London, Dublin, Tel Aviv, Milan, Nairobi, Amsterdam, Warsaw, Madrid, Stockholm, Zurich, Istanbul and Dubai — so you apply to a location, not to a single central cohort.

Who it is for

Current law students or recent law graduates with:

• An excellent academic record
• Work authorisation in the country of the internship
• English proficiency, plus the local language of the country you apply to

Those last two conditions do most of the filtering. This is not a programme that sponsors visas: you apply where you already have the right to work, and the local-language requirement means the host city has to be one you can genuinely operate in.

What it pays

It is described as a paid programme. Google has not published the figure publicly, and it varies by host country and firm — ask at offer stage rather than assuming.

Timing

The 2026 round closed on 17 May 2026, and the programme runs from 7 to 11 September 2026. Applications have opened in spring in recent years.

Preparing for the next round

For a corporate legal programme the application is closer to a training-contract application than to a summer school:

• Academic transcript, with the record actually strong
• A reason for wanting technology law specifically
• Evidence of the local language if it is not your first

If you are a first or second-year law student, the year between now and the next opening is enough to add a moot, a legal clinic or a relevant essay prize to that record.
